Star Fox 64 returns us to familiar landscapes and battles, but in 3D these take on new substance and seem more real than ever.
Star Fox 64 3D revisits the classic Nintendo 64 version of the game. For those who remember the original it is instantly recognisable. The game takes in the familiar landscape of the original from oceans and hills to the iconic ravines of Corneria City.
You control the Arwing ship via the 3DS’s Analogue nub calling on special moves via the D-pad. Bombs and lasers as well as acceleration and braking are mapped to the other face buttons. This leaves the Left/Right Triggers for banking and rolling.
Depth has been accentuated throughout to take advantage of the 3DS’s 3D display on the top screen. Something about the constant movement of Star Fox 64 seems to increase the sense of a 3D world.

Like Zelda Ocarina of Time on the 3DS, this is a remake rather than a new game and possibly a quick easy win for Nintendo. That said though, there has been considerable attention to detail, both in the user interface and new textures that have been added to create an experience that still feels fresh.
