Ubisoft publishing randomly generated frantic Vita platformer Cloudberry Kingdom this spring

The two-man dev team over at Pwnee Studios has revealed that its randomly generated platformer Cloudberry Kingdom will be heading to PS Vita later this spring.

And it's all thanks to Ubisoft.

Cloudberry Kingdom first captured the attention of the gaming public when itappeared on crowdfunding site Kickstarter last year.

By that time, however, the Pwnee Studios duo (Jordan Fisher and TJ Lutz) had already been working on the project for three years. Apparently, that's how long it takes two dudes to develop an algorithmic level design system capable of making an infinite number of "insane Mario levels".



With Cloudberry Kingdom, Pwnee Studios was looking to find the sweet spot between making the gameplay challenging and making levels so tough that rage quitting would be the only sane option.

So, to ensure that the difficulty level is perfectly attuned to the player's individual ability, the AI constructs levels based on, among other things, the player's previous performance.

As you can see from the gameplay footage above, Cloudberry Kingdom's levels are some of the busiest we've ever seen. In fact, all those hostile objects whizzing their way around the screen remind us of the more frantic moments of a Cave bullet-hell shooter.

Having received backing from Ubisoft, the Pwnee Studios team can finally realise its goal of bringing Cloudberry Kingdom to market. It's due to arrive on the PS Vita Store this spring.
